INFERIORITY COMPLEX
BATTLING INFERIORITY COMPLEX AS A CHRISTIAN
There is a certain problem which almost everyone faces at one time or another whether as a child or an adult. My personal studies and findings has proved this feeling right.for some people it has already been a life time problem.
What then is this problem?
*Inferiority complex*
*WHAT IS INFERIORITY COMPLEX?*
It could be referred to as a feeling that you are not good,as intelligent,as handsome,as wealthy e.t.c as other people or your peer group. it is self sense of low self-esteem.
It is also seen as a thing of the mind. At certain point in time and in our lives..we tend to come across circumstances and people who tend to make us feel less important of who we are.
Feeling of inferiority comes from accepting the wrong values of this world, neglecting the values of Heaven i e God's kingdom.
What are those things that the world values
1. Physical attraction (1Samuel 16:7)
2. Intelligence (1Corinthians 1:26)
3. Wealth (Luke 12:15)
Until your financial priority are filtered towards God your prosperity is not confirmed...
Actually, feeling inadequate is exactly what we all should feel, because then we'll depend on the Lord to make us competent. As Paul said, "Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God" (2 Corinthians 3:4-5)
There's nothing wrong with feeling inadequate from time to time. It happens to everyone, and those feelings should drive us toward dependence on the Lord to make us competent. But if we simply accept our inadequacy as an unchangeable fact, we develop an inferiority complex that will hinder us all our lives.
When we act with our will to believe God's promises to us, to acknowledge Him as the source of our abilities, to trust that He will make us adequate for all the circumstances of life, then we will have victory over feelings of inferiority and inadequacy that stand as obstacles to our growth to emotional, social, and spiritual maturity.
CAN INFERIORITY COMPLEX BE AVOIDED OR MANAGED?
Avoiding inferiority complex is majorly a parental responsibility, because like a healthy self esteem, people who suffer the complex begin to suffer it from childhood and more often than not, I can say out of my personal experience that when parents neglect the most minute details of their children's lives as they grow, the result becomes an unconscious fall into an unhealthy self esteem which translates into the complex
Avoiding it is a major parental problem. You create unhealthy self-esteem when you neglect the most important details of your children lives. Lot matters the child that parents don't know. This unhealthy self-esteem is basically created with the kind of words you say to your children.
Remember words are life.
It becomes better when a child has a foundation of a healthy self-esteem before he or she goes into the world where so many challenges from peer group might arise so that the healthy self-esteem that has already been built inside of that child will help the the child deal with it.
Parents should try and build confidence in their children, and boost their self esteem.
They shouldnt give them demeaning insults or always emphasize on their shortcomings rather encourage them and help them be better.
HOW THEN CAN YOU BATTLE INFERIORITY COMPLEX AS AN ADULT AND A CHRISTIAN ?
1. Change your thinking: wisdom is seeing things as God see them. God never values a person by just his outward appearance, intelligence, wealth or social position(Romans 2:11).
These things are not evil in themselves oo..it is the wrong motive and value that the world places on them that is very wrong. If we then as Christians accept this wrong beliefs and values of the world,it will lead to feeling of inferiority.
Change the way we feel about ourselves. We must see that our worth as a person does not depend on our outward appearance, our intelligence, our wealth or social position.
(Jeremiah 1:5 Galatians 3:28)
2. Surround yourself with the right and positive people(Friends). These are people who will not downgrade you or always want to look down on you. Sometimes in our lives we allow negative energy take control when we can actually walk away (1 Corinthians 15:33)
A volunteer once said "I quote"
*If you can't move with the flow, then you should be your own flow*
Don't do what others are doing because you want to feel among. Do them because you get self satisfaction.
You don't have to be beautiful or highly intelligent or have alot of money to make friends. Listen very carefully....The best way to to have good friends is to be a good friend. Nothing helps your self confidence more than having genuine friends.
3. Learn to do something well, never remain idle, find a hobby, find something that you will love to do and then work at it. Do not waste time feeling sorry for yourself..make the most out of the little you have. personal development helps to make purpose clearer, you will get to realise yourself in the process.
4. Face your problems honestly. Get a quiet place where you can think then make a list of things which you most dislike about yourself..be honest no one needs to see this except you and God.
Do people get the wrong impression about how you dress? Are you careless or lazy about your work?.. Do something about it.we should do all things to the glory of God.
Finally, I must say that purpose and a healthy self-esteem is rooted in knowing God genuinely. The only one who can truly satisfy the human esteem and heart is the one who made it.
Read the word of God
Be around people that speak life to you.
Pray. God does not want you to manage low self-esteem, rather he wants you to be completed delivered from it.
Deliverance is complete and only God can do that.
Low self-esteem is a scheme of the devil.
